THE SOUL OF RIGA
THE SOUL OF RIGA
The Sun Lady of Riga
History and Facts
This radiant sun emblem decorates the façade of Alberta iela 11, one of Riga’s National Romantic Art Nouveau masterpieces by architect Eižens Laube, completed in 1908. The sun motif on the bay windows is crafted from copper strips set against natural slate, tying light symbolism into the building’s material language.

Interesting Fact
Laube often used ethnographic and nature-inspired symbols. Here, the sun becomes a sign of vitality and renewal — a calm counterpoint to the street’s more dramatic Jugendstil façades.

Author’s Note
Bathed in evening light, the sun detail seems to glow from within — a quiet promise of warmth in Riga’s stone garden.
