THE SOUL OF RIGA
THE SOUL OF RIGA
Harmony of Stone
History and Facts
Another gem of Riga’s Art Nouveau quarter, this façade at Antonijas iela 8 shows the city’s mastery of proportion, light, and sculpted detail. Designed by Konstantīns Pēkšēns and completed in 1903, the building balances clear symmetry with refined, restrained ornamentation typical of Riga’s early Jugendstil.

Interesting Fact
The most striking feature is the entrance framed by winged dragons beneath the bay window — a protective Art Nouveau motif. Along the façade, quiet sculptures of stylised plants and living beings make the house feel crafted by hand, not by template.

Author’s Note
At sunset, the figures seem to breathe with the building — stone turning soft, elegance turning alive.
