THE SOUL OF RIGA
THE SOUL OF RIGA
Autumn Facade
History and Facts
This house on Ausekļa iela 3 belongs to Riga’s Quiet Centre and reflects the city’s interwar modernism. Built in 1927 by architect Pāvils Dreijmanis, it blends functionalism and Art Deco — clean geometry, balanced proportions, and carefully restrained decoration. Unlike the ornate Art Nouveau nearby, this facade speaks in the calm, urban language of the 1920s.

Interesting Fact
High above the street sits Rihards Maurs’ sculpture “Night Watchman” (Naktssargs) from 1927 — a symbolic guardian that has watched the seasons change for nearly a century.

Author’s Note
In autumn light, the stone turns warmer — and the city feels quietly protected.
