THE SOUL OF RIGA
THE SOUL OF RIGA
Tram on Akmens Bridge at Sunset
History and Facts
Akmens Bridge (“Stone Bridge”) spans the Daugava and connects Old Riga with Pārdaugava. Built in 1955–1957 and opened in 1957, it has long been one of the city’s main crossings. Riga’s tram network has operated since 1882 (electrified in 1901), and the lines crossing Akmens Bridge link the neighborhoods on both banks.

Interesting Fact
At golden hour the rails catch the sun, and a passing tram becomes a brief streak of light — a small pulse of movement stitching the two sides of Riga together.

Author’s Note
I framed the scene through foreground grasses and used a longer shutter to let motion blur paint the tram’s path — a living line across the bridge.
