THE SOUL OF RIGA
THE SOUL OF RIGA
The Evening Light of St. Peter’s
History and Facts
Viewed across the Daugava River, the spire of St. Peter’s Church glows in the fading light — one of Riga’s most recognizable silhouettes. The church’s origins reach back to the early 13th century, and through centuries of fires and war it has been destroyed and rebuilt more than once, mirroring Riga’s own resilience.

Interesting Fact
After being ruined in World War II, the tower was rebuilt during the Soviet-era restoration works (1967–1983). The new spire and its gilded rooster were raised in the 1970s, returning St. Peter’s to the skyline as a symbol of renewal and continuity.

Author’s Note
As the sun sets, Riga does not grow darker — it turns golden.
