History and Facts
This sculpted entrance belongs to the historic mansion at Krišjāņa Valdemāra iela 7. Built in 1875 for merchant Johann Joachim Fenger and designed by architect Matthias Holst, the house is a refined example of late-19th-century classicist/eclectic Riga. Today it is known as Gallery Park Hotel & SPA, carrying the building’s aristocratic calm into modern city life.
Interesting Fact
The two female figures flanking the portal act like caryatids — architectural “guardians” that support the entrance and visually welcome guests, echoing the era’s love for sculpture as part of the facade.
