THE SOUL OF RIGA
THE SOUL OF RIGA
Vanšu Bridge
History and Facts
Completed in 1981, Vanšu Bridge is one of Riga’s most recognizable landmarks. The cable-stayed bridge is about 595 meters long (around 625 m including approaches) and links Old Riga with Pārdaugava via Ķīpsala. It was the first single-pylon cable-stayed bridge of its kind in Latvia and the Baltic region, a striking engineering statement of its era.

Interesting Fact
Originally opened as the Gorky Bridge, it was renamed Vanšu Bridge in 1991. Today it remains a favorite spot for photographers and sunset watchers, with wide views over the Daugava and Riga’s skyline.

Author’s Note
The tower rising into the blue sky feels like balance — between engineering precision and poetic simplicity. I captured it in clean light to reveal its architectural rhythm.
