THE SOUL OF RIGA
National Art Museum
History and Facts
Opened in 1905 and designed by architect Wilhelm Neumann, the Latvian National Museum of Art was the first building in the Baltics purpose-built to house an art collection. Its historicist, neo-Baroque/neo-classical façade is crowned with allegorical figures commonly read as symbols of Art, History, and Wisdom, reflecting the ideals of the early 20th century.

Interesting Fact
The museum underwent a major renovation in 2013–2016, adding modern underground galleries and skylit spaces while restoring the original grandeur of the main halls.
