THE SOUL OF RIGA
Rhythm of Arches — Riga Railway Bridge
History and Facts
The Riga Railway Bridge was inaugurated in 1914 and became the city’s main rail crossing over the Daugava. Damaged during both world wars, it was rebuilt after World War I and again after World War II, with the present structure completed in 1955. It remains Riga’s primary railway bridge, carrying both passenger and freight trains.

Interesting Fact
At night the bridge is architecturally illuminated, highlighting its piers and arches and making it a favorite element in Riga’s panoramas.

Author’s Note
A long exposure smooths the Daugava and sets the sky in motion. The arches form a visual rhythm — the heartbeat of Riga.
