THE SOUL OF RIGA
Brīvības Street 68 – A Corner of Art Nouveau
History and Facts
Brīvības Street is Riga’s main artery, lined with buildings that reflect the city’s history and architectural diversity. The corner building with a tower at Brīvības and Ģertrūdes Streets was constructed in 1903, designed by architect Aleksandrs Vanags. It is a striking example of Riga’s Art Nouveau, featuring ornate façade decorations, balconies, and a massive corner tower.

Interesting Fact
Originally, the house was built as a rental property, with apartments and shops. Today it hosts a pharmacy, shops, and offices, while its architectural elegance continues to attract tourists and photographers alike.

Author’s Note
I chose this building because Art Nouveau Riga is just as significant as medieval Old Riga. In this image, I wanted to capture the way light flows across the façade, emphasizing the plasticity of its forms and the vertical accent of the tower.
