Freedom Monument — Heart of Riga
History & Facts
The Freedom Monument was unveiled in 1935 and built from public donations as a memorial to those who fell in Latvia’s War of Independence. Standing about 42.7 meters tall, it has become Latvia’s foremost symbol of independence and a central site of remembrance.

Interesting Fact
The figure of Liberty holds three stars representing Latvia’s historical regions. Today, the monument serves both as the stage for national ceremonies and a popular meeting point.
