THE SOUL OF RIGA
Path of Light across the Daugava — Stone Bridge
History and Facts
The Stone Bridge was built in 1955–1957 and opened in 1957. During the Soviet era it was known as the October Bridge, and in 1992 it was renamed Stone Bridge. It connects Old Riga with Pārdaugava and remains one of the city’s key transport arteries, carrying both private and public transit.

Interesting Fact
The bridge is over half a kilometer long (503 m) and about 27 m wide. It is one of Riga’s busiest crossings over the Daugava, and it also carries tram lines. Nearby stands the National Library of Latvia — the “Castle of Light.”
