Gothic Spire — St. Gertrude’s New Church
Gothic Spire — St. Gertrude’s New Church
History and Facts
St. Gertrude’s New Church was built in 1903–1906, after the Old St. Gertrude congregation had outgrown its church. Designed by architect Wilhelm Bockslaff, it is a striking early-20th-century Riga landmark in Eclectic style, blending Neo-Gothic and Neo-Romanesque elements. Its spire rises to about 69 meters, and the church remains an active Lutheran parish today.

Interesting Fact
The clock tower is visible from afar and has long served as a landmark along Brīvības Street.

Author’s Note
Gothic shapes always carry drama. In infrared, the spire becomes a stark symbol of light and shadow.
