THE SOUL OF RIGA
Opera by the Canal — Latvian National Opera
History & Facts
The Latvian National Opera building was constructed in 1863 (architect Ludwig Bohnstedt) and rebuilt in 1887 after a fire. Today it houses the country’s premier opera and ballet company.

Interesting
The building is often nicknamed Riga’s “White House,” and its productions tour widely at international festivals.

Author’s Note
Seen from the canal, the opera feels like an open-air stage. The long exposure smooths the water and deepens the calm in the city center.
