History and Facts
Jānis Pliekšāns, known as Rainis (1865–1929), was one of Latvia’s greatest poets, playwrights, and intellectuals. He embodies the spirit of the Latvian national awakening and the quest for freedom. The monument in Esplanāde Park was unveiled in 1965, created by sculptor Kārlis Zemdega.

Interesting Fact
The Rainis monument is often a meeting point and the site of commemorative events. Each year flowers are laid here in honor of the poet’s contribution to Latvian culture and language.

Author’s Note
I chose this site because Rainis symbolizes for me the strength and resilience of the Latvian people. Infrared photography enhances the monument’s majesty, highlighting the poet’s figure framed by trees and rays of light.
