THE SOUL OF RIGA
Riga Cathedral – The Largest Church in Latvia
History and Facts
Riga Cathedral, founded in 1211, is the largest medieval church in the Baltic States. For centuries it served as the main bishop’s church of Livonia, later became a center of the Reformation, and today remains the Evangelical Lutheran cathedral of Riga. Its architecture is a unique blend of Romanesque, Gothic, Baroque, and Art Nouveau layers.

Interesting Fact
The cathedral’s pipe organ, built in 1882–83 and inaugurated in 1884, was the largest and most modern organ in the world at the time. It is still regarded as one of Europe’s most magnificent concert organs.

Author’s Note
I chose this site because the Cathedral symbolizes for me not only Riga but also the heart of Latvia’s cultural and spiritual life. I wanted to capture it in silence, allowing its grandeur to dominate the square.
