THE SOUL OF RIGA
Riga Panorama with St. Peter’s Church
History and Facts
St. Peter’s Church tower is one of Riga’s most iconic landmarks. The church is mentioned in records as early as 1209, and its stone Gothic form developed through the 13th century. Over time, the spire was repeatedly destroyed by fires and wars and rebuilt again and again. Today the tower rises to about 123 meters, with a main observation deck around 72 meters offering sweeping views across the city.

Interesting Fact
The wooden spire completed in 1690 reached roughly 148 meters and was the tallest wooden church tower in Europe at the time — a remarkable 17th-century engineering feat.

Author’s Note
From this viewpoint, Riga unfolds as a city of contrasts — historic churches alongside modern glass towers, bridges, and the Daugava uniting it all.
