THE SOUL OF RIGA
Silhouette against the Light — Vanšu Bridge
History and Facts
The Vanšu Bridge, inaugurated in 1981, remains one of Riga’s main arteries, connecting the city center with Pārdaugava. Its total length is about 625 meters, with a pylon rising 109 meters high.

Interesting Fact
At the time of its opening, Vanšu Bridge was considered one of the most advanced single-pylon cable-stayed bridges in the Soviet Union. It soon became a recognizable symbol of Riga, often seen in photography and film.

Author’s Note
Here, the bridge becomes a dark silhouette against the setting sun. It feels like a force standing between day and night.
