THE SOUL OF RIGA
St. Peter’s Church
History and Facts
St. Peter’s Church is one of the most remarkable monuments of medieval architecture in Riga. Construction began in the 13th century, and it was intended as the city’s main parish church. Over the centuries, the spire suffered repeatedly from fires and wars. The current spire was rebuilt in the 1970s after the church was destroyed during World War II.

Interesting Fact
In the 17th century, St. Peter’s spire reached a height of 120.7 meters, making it one of the tallest wooden towers in Europe. Today, the observation deck at 72 meters offers one of the most impressive panoramic views of Riga’s Old Town.

Author’s Note
I chose this location because, for me, St. Peter’s Church symbolizes Riga’s resilience and its ability to rise from the ashes. In this image, I wanted to capture the dramatic vertical of the spire framed by modern buildings — a bridge between past and present.
