THE SOUL OF RIGA
St. Peter’s Church – Riga’s Tower to the Sky
History and Facts
St. Peter’s Church was first mentioned in 1209. It is one of the oldest and most significant Gothic churches in the Baltics. The church’s tower has been destroyed and rebuilt several times due to fires and wars. The current spire stands 123 meters tall, making it one of Riga’s most iconic landmarks.

Interesting Fact
The tower has two observation decks – at 57 m and 71 m – offering panoramic views over Old Riga and the Daugava River.

Author’s Note
I chose this site because St. Peter’s Church symbolizes for me the strength and resilience of Riga. Infrared photography transforms the spire into a path connecting earth and sky.
