THE SOUL OF RIGA
Riga TV Tower
History and Facts
The Riga TV Tower is the tallest tower in the Baltics and the third tallest in Europe. Construction began in 1979 and was completed in 1989. Standing 368 meters tall, it provides radio and television broadcasting across Latvia. The structure was designed to withstand earthquakes and strong winds, with an estimated lifespan of more than 250 years.

Interesting Fact
At a height of 97 meters, the observation deck offers a wide panorama of Riga and the River Daugava. The tower once housed the rotating restaurant “Vēja roze” (“Wind Rose”), where guests could enjoy a meal with a constantly changing view of the city.

Author’s Note
I chose to photograph the Riga TV Tower because, for me, it symbolizes modern Riga’s ability to rise above time and space. Through infrared photography, I wanted to capture the tower’s majestic solitude in the middle of nature — a contrast between technology and the environment.
