Torņakalns Station – At the Crossroads of History and Journeys
History and Facts
Torņakalns Station was opened in 1868 as part of the Riga–Jelgava railway line. The site is deeply tied to Latvia’s tragic history – in 1941 and 1949, thousands of Latvians were deported to Siberia from here. Today, the station continues to serve as an active passenger hub.

Interesting Fact
Next to the station stands a memorial to the victims of deportations – a preserved railway wagon and monument remind visitors of these painful chapters in Latvian history.

Author’s Note
I chose this location because Torņakalns Station represents not only the beginning or end of a journey but also the living memory of history. Infrared photography adds a tone of melancholy and the flow of time to the scene.
