THE SOUL OF RIGA
THE SOUL OF RIGA
St Peter’s Church Tower
History and Facts
St. Peter’s Church is one of Riga’s oldest landmarks, first mentioned in records in 1209 and developed into its Gothic form through the 13th century. The tower has been destroyed and rebuilt several times after fires and wars; the present spire, restored in the 1970s after World War II, rises to about 123 meters. Today it offers a panoramic viewing platform over the historic center.

Interesting Fact
From the observation deck (around 72 m high), you can see Old Riga’s red rooftops, the Daugava River, and the modern skyline — a single viewpoint connecting medieval and contemporary Riga.

Author’s Note
Framed by narrow streets, the spire’s vertical line felt like an aspiration beyond the city’s limits. The light carved long shadows, revealing time-worn textures.
