THE SOUL OF RIGA
THE SOUL OF RIGA
The Blue Facade
History and Facts
This elegant Art Nouveau residence on Alberta Street 11 is a National Romantic masterpiece designed by Latvian architect Eižens Laube and completed in 1908. The façade combines strong proportions with Latvian folk-inspired ornament and sculptural detail, creating a calmer, more monumental rhythm than the highly decorative Eisenstein houses nearby.

Interesting Fact
Laube often wove nature and ethnographic symbols into his buildings. Here, the ornamentation is not just decoration — it’s a quiet statement of Latvian identity in early 20th-century Riga.

Author’s Note
Morning shadows slide across the restrained patterns — a breath of dignity and elegance held still in time.
