THE SOUL OF RIGA
THE SOUL OF RIGA
St Peter’s Church from the River
History and Facts
St. Peter’s Church dominates Riga’s skyline with its 123-meter spire. The first church on this site is documented in the early 13th century, and over the centuries the building was expanded and rebuilt many times. Today it stands as one of Riga’s most significant Gothic landmarks.

Interesting Fact
The current spire was completed in 1973 after earlier towers were destroyed by war and fire. Visible from far along the Daugava, it remains one of the city’s strongest vertical accents, with an observation gallery about 72 meters above ground.

Author’s Note
Photographed from the riverbank, the church appears framed by trees and morning light — a quiet dialogue between faith, history, and nature.
