History and Facts
House of the Blackheads, first built in the 14th century for a guild of unmarried merchants, has been destroyed and rebuilt several times; the current reconstruction dates from the late 20th century. Its ornate façade is a highlight of Riga’s Old Town.

Interesting Fact
The statue of St George slaying the dragon symbolises vigilance and protection — a fitting emblem for Riga’s historic marketplace.

I wanted the evening light and decorative reliefs to speak of trade, community and resilience — layers of stories held by this square.
