THE SOUL OF RIGA
THE SOUL OF RIGA
Art Deco Sentinel
History and Facts
This building at 3 Ausekļa iela belongs to Riga’s “Quiet Centre” and represents the city’s interwar modernism. Built in 1927 and designed by architect Pāvils Dreijmanis, it is a refined blend of functionalism and Art Deco — clean lines, measured symmetry, and restrained ornament. Unlike the exuberant Art Nouveau facades nearby, this house speaks in a calmer, more urban rhythm of the 1920s.

Interesting Fact
The facade is crowned by the sculpture “Night Watchman” (Naktssargs) by sculptor Rihards Maurs, created in the same year — a symbolic guardian over the street and its residents.
